Antonio da Ponte (1512-1595) (born in Venice) was a Swiss architect & engineer most famous for his rebuilding the Rialto Bridge in Venice. Although, Antonio da Ponte was undoubtedly the builder of many previous structures, but his earlier works are entirely unknown. After the original wooden structure had collapsed repeatedly, his design was selected in a contest held by the local authorities under Doge of Venice Pasqual Cicogna. Wikipedia
