Sir Archibald Geikie, OM, PRS (December 28, 1835 - November 10, 1924), Scottish geologist, was born at Edinburgh. The elder brother of James Geikie, he was educated at the high school and University of Edinburgh, and in 1855 was appointed an assistant on the Geological Survey.
