Barbara Schmertz , 3rd year, Ph.D. Program Barbara received her BS degree in Journalism from The Pennsylvania State University in 1990. Barbara worked several years in advertising and for the national service program AmeriCorps before beginning a career in higher education. She spent two years in fundraising and development at Bucknell University before moving to Charlottesville. aace.virginia.edu
