Ben Bernanke, Federal Reserve chair Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has said that the U.S. housing market is in the midst of a "substantial correction." Bernanke said this month that the downturn in residential construction has become "a major drag" on economic growth, the Financial Times reported . Bernanke also stated that there are "strong fundamentals" in the real estate market.
