Carlos Gardel (11 December 1887/1890<sup><small>1</small></sup> - 24 June 1935 Medellín, Colombia) was one of the most prominent figures in the history of tango music. Even though his origin is largely disputed, he was raised in Argentina and spent a majority of his life there and acquired the citizenship in 1923.
