Charles Calderon , a Democrat from Los Angeles, served as an Assembly Member from November 1982 until April 1990, when he was elected to the Senate to represent the 30th District. Before beginning his tenure in the Legislature, Senator Calderon served as Assistant to the General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in Washington, D.C., and as a special consultant to the California Secretary of State.
