Christian Hendrik Persoon
Christian Hendrik Persoon (February 1, 1761 - November 16, 1836) was a mycologist who made additions to Linnaeus' mushroom taxonomy. Persoon was born in South Africa, of Dutch and German descent. His mother died soon after he was born; at the age of thirteen his father (who died a year later) sent him to Europe for his education. Initially studying theology, Persoon switched to medicine, and somehow received an honorary PhD in 1799. Wikipedia
