Clarence F. Pautzke was born in 1907, a native of Auburn, Washington. He attended the University of Washington graduating in 1931 with a degree in Aquatic Biology. His enthusiasm, energy and drive during his University days won him recognition as an all American football player. These personal qualities were evident throughout his life.
