Donzell McDonald born February 20, 1975 in Long Beach, California, grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado. He attended Cherry Creek High School, which also produced Darnell McDonald (brother), Brad Lidge, and David Aardsma. He went on to Trinidad Community College and moved to Yavapai College with coach Nino Giarratano. Other Yavapai alumni are: John Butcher, John Fulgham, Billy Hatcher, Charlie Kerfeld, Alex Madrid, Bob Milacki, Gabe Molina, and Curt Schilling.
