Elya Baskin (born 24 January 1951, Riga, Latvia) attended Moscow's prestigious Theatre and Variety Arts College. He won a Festival of Young Actors Award at the Moscow Comedy Theatre. He has build a considerable career in TV and movies, and is often cast as russian, due to his ancestry and accent. In the film, Marganin is portrayed as a Soviet embassy assistant to non other, it's chief intelligence officer, Prevlov. Again, the producers didn't give Elya much room to help develop his character.
