Fernand Petiot (c. 1900 - January 1975) was a bartender who made an impact on popular culture by creating the Bloody Mary, a popular cocktail drink containing vodka or gin, tomato juice, and other ingredients. Petiot invented the drink in 1920 while working at Harry's New York Bar in Paris, France, a frequent hangout for Ernest Hemingway and other American expatriots.
