France Winddance Twine (born in Chicago, Illinois) is an American sociologist, feminist theorist and ethnographer who has conducted extensive field research in Brazil, Britain and the United States. Twine earned her BA from Northwestern University at the age of 20, and her PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. Her grandfather, Paul Twine, Sr., was a prominent civil rights activist and co-founded the Chicago chapter of the Catholic Interracial Council. Wikipedia
