Gerhard Herzberg, PC, CC, D.Sc, LL.D, FRSC, FRS (December 25, 1904 - March 3, 1999) was a pioneering physicist and physical chemist, who won the 1971 Nobel Prize for Chemistry. Born in Germany, he fled to Canada in 1935, where he continued his distinguished scientific career. Herzberg's main work concerned atomic and molecular spectroscopy.
