Gert Thys (born November 12, 1971 in Prieska) is a long-distance runner from South Africa, who represented his native country in the men's marathon at the 2004 Summer Olympics in 2004 (Athens, Greece). Employed as a security officer, Thys was the African record holder in the marathon. He became the first man to run three marathons sub 2:08 and to run two sub 2:08 marathons in one year (1998).
