Gysbert Japicx (Bolsward, Friesland 1603-1666) was a Frisian writer. He admired Horace and Ovid and was a defender for the "memmentael" (mother tongue) which elevated Frisian to a literature language. His poems are included in "Fryske rijmlerye" (1688) & "Friessche tjerne" (1640). Wikipedia
