Maria of Portugal (1521-1577, pron. ; English: "Mary") was a Portuguese Princess daughter of King Manuel I and his wife Eleanor of Habsburg. Maria was born on June 18 1521 in Lisbon. She is often referred as a protector of the arts and writing.She was at one point considered as a second wife for her nephew (the future Phillip II of Spain). She died unmarried in Lisbon on October 10 1577 and is buried in the Chapel of Our Lady of Luz. Wikipedia
