Jacob Koppel "Jack" Javits (May 18, 1904 - March 7, 1986) was a liberal Republican New York politician originally allied with Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller, fellow U.S. Senators Irving Ives and Kenneth Keating, and Mayor John V. Lindsay. Javits graduated from New York University and its law school in Manhattan. He was admitted to the bar in 1927. During World War II, he was a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army. Wikipedia
