James Arthur Lovell, Jr . was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 25, 1928. Lovell graduated from Juneau High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin for two years before receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1952. Lovell’s military and flight career began in 1952 when he became an ensign in the Navy. While in the Navy he attended flight school and served as a flight instructor and test pilot. oplin.org
