James Leonard Farmer Jr., a Black civil rights activist who was one of the "big three" leaders of the American civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Marshall, Texas in 1920, Farmer was an excellent student who skipped several grades in elementary school. After he completed high school at the age of fourteen he attended Wiley College with the idea of becoming a doctor but instead received his bachelors degree of science in chemistry in 1938. Wikipedia
