James Michael Curley was an American politician who served in the United States House of Representatives, as the mayor of Boston, Massachusetts, and as Governor of Massachusetts. Curley was born to immigrants from County Galway, Ireland. His father Michael Curley (1850-1884) settled in Roxbury in 1864 and worked as an unskilled laborer.
