James White (August 8, 1747 - August 14, 1821) was an American pioneer and soldier who founded White's Fort, which later became Knoxville, Tennessee. White was born in Rowan County, North Carolina, although the site became part of Iredell County when it was organized. During the American Revolutionary War, he was a captain in the North Carolina militia. During the Creek War, he served as a brigadier general in the Tennessee militia with Andrew Jackson. Wikipedia
