Jean-Philippe Maitre was a Swiss politician, member of the Swiss National Council (1983-2005). He was elected President of the National Council for the year 2005, but resigned for 1 March 2005 due to a brain tumor. Maitre studied law at the University of Geneva and practiced as an attorney in Geneva. From 1973 to 1985 he was member of the cantonal parliament of Geneva.
