Jocelyn Birch Burdick, (February 6, 1922 in Fargo) Democrat of North Dakota, was a United States Senator briefly during 1992. Upon the death of her husband, Senator Quentin N. Burdick, Governor George Sinner appointed her to fill the vacancy until a special election was held. She was not a candidate for election to the rest of the term, and retired to Fargo upon the election of Kent Conrad to the office. Wikipedia
