John Daniel Singleton (born January 6, 1968 in Los Angeles, California) is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. His movies depict his native South Los Angeles with both its sweet and violent sides given equal consideration. Singleton attended the University of Southern California where his campus involvement included pledging and being initiated into the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
