John Williams was an American lawyer, soldier, and statesman from Knoxville, Tennessee. Born in Surry County, North Carolina (present-day Forsyth County), he represented Tennessee in the United States Senate from 1815 to 1823. He was Chargé d'affaires to the Central American Federation, 1825-26, and a member of the Tennessee Senate, 1827-28 Williams is the brother of Lewis Williams and Robert Williams, both congressman from North Carolina; and cousin of U.S. Rep.
