Joseph Lovering (b. 1813, Boston, Massachusetts - d. 1892, Boston) was an American scientist and educator. He graduated from Harvard in 1833. In 1838 he was named Hollis Professor of mathematics and natural philosophy in Harvard. He held this chair until 1888, when he was appointed Professor Emeritus, after 50 years service.
