Dr. Hymel began his career as an academic scientist. He performed research and published scientific articles in the areas of biochemistry, biophysics, pharmacology, and physiology, with emphasis on membrane transport proteins, receptors, and artificial membrane systems. He also worked at the National Institutes of Health as a scientific review administrator. Dr. Hymel obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude with honors in Biology, from Tulane University. wsgh
