Liston Oak was an American left-wing journalist. As a friend of the Soviet Union, Oak originally supported the policies of Joseph Stalin. But the Moscow Trials of the mid 1930s made him brake with Stalinism and Oak breifly became a supporter of Leon Trotsky before eventually shifting to Social Democracy. Wikipedia
