Mark Freuder Knopfler OBE (born August 12, 1949, Glasgow, Scotland) is a UK guitarist, singer, songwriter, and film score composer. Knopfler was originally best-known as the lead guitarist and vocalist for the band Dire Straits, which he founded in 1977.
