Max Theiler (January 30, 1899 - August 11, 1972) was a South African virologist, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1951 for developing a vaccine for yellow fever. Theiler was born in Pretoria, South Africa, his father Arnold Theiler was a veterinary bacteriologist.
