Born to a Jewish family in Brăila, he studied in Bucharest law and philosophy and later published several novels, including his "Accidentul" ("The Accident"), "Poiana cu salcâmi" ("The Acacia Tree Clearing"), under the influence of French novelists such as Marcel Proust and Jules Renard.
