Niels Kaj Jerne FRS was a Danish (English-born) immunologist. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology in 1984. The citation read "For theories concerning the specificity in development and control of the immune system and the discovery of the principle for production of monoclonal antibodies".
