Otto Grotewohl (March 11, 1894 - September 21 1964) was an East German politician. Grotewohl was born in Braunschweig. A leader of the Social Democratic Party in the Soviet Zone of Occupation after World War II, he led his party into a merger with the Communist Party led by Wilhelm Pieck in April 1946, forming the new Socialist Unity Party (SED). Grotewohl and Pieck had received the Eulenberg estate as a life gift from the Soviet Government for the merger. Wikipedia
