Carlton worked in Raleigh for 25 years and never moved, returning to Pinetops where he wrote “From Pine Tops to Pinetops” in 2003. Carlton’s neighbor, Dr. Hartwell Fuller, introduced him. Carlton graduated from N.C. State in 1960 and was recognized as Outstanding Alumnus in 1974. He earned his law degree from UNC School of Law in 1963 and was awarded an honorary doctor of law degree from N.C. Wesleyan College in 1976. dailysoutherner
