Richard Theodore Ely, Ph. D., LL.D. (born April 13, 1854 in Ripley, New York; died October 4, 1943 in Old Lyme, Connecticut) was an American economist. He was born as the eldest of three children of Ezra Sterling and Harriet Gardner (Mason) Ely.
