Robert Gould Shaw III (1898-1970) was the only son of Nancy Langhorne (later Nancy Astor) and her first husband Robert Gould Shaw II, who was a cousin of Robert Gould Shaw of Fort Wagner fame. His life tended to be troubled. His birth father had a limited role in his life at best. He briefly served in the British military but his increasing alcoholism caused difficulty. In 1931 he briefly gained notoriety by being sentenced to jail on Britain's sodomy laws. Wikipedia
