Sheila P. Burke , MPA, RN, FAAN , is the Smithsonian’s Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer. Before joining the Smithsonian Institution in June of 2000, Burke was executive dean and lecturer in public policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. She served as the chief of staff to former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole from 1986 to 1996 and was elected to serve as secretary of the Senate in 1995. healthpolicyfellows.org
