Violet Jacob (1863 - 1946) was a Scottish writer, now known especially for her historical novel "Flemington" and her poetry. She was born Violet Kennedy-Erskine into an aristocratic family in 1863 near Montrose, Angus, where much of her fiction is set. She married in 1894 Arthur Otway Jacob, an Irish officer in the British Army, and accompanied him to India where he was serving. Arthur died 1936, and she returned to live at Kirriemuir, in Angus.
