Walter J. Maddock was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He served in the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1914 to 1924, and became the Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota in 1924. Maddock became the fifteenth Governor of North Dakota in 1928 when the Arthur G. Sorlie died in office, and became the first North Dakota born governor. He served the remainder of Sorlie's term and sought re-election, but he failed to win the race against George F. Shafer. Wikipedia
