William Hunter (23 May 1718 - 30 March 1783) was a Scottish anatomist and physician. He was born in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, the elder brother of John Hunter. After studying divinity at the University of Glasgow, he went into medicine in 1737, studying under William Cullen. He was trained in anatomy at St George's Hospital, London, and specialised in obstetrics. Wikipedia
Hunter was a philosopher in more senses than one; he had philosophy enough to bear prosperity, as well as adversity, and with a rough exterior was a very kind man. The poor could command his services more than the rich. www.gutenberg.org/dirs/1/1/3/3/11330/11330-h/11330-h.htm
