Yakov Kazyansky was born in Kuybyshev (now Samara), Russia on August 30, 1948. In 1949, his family moved to Yaroslavl, where he graduated from the Yaroslavl Regional Music College. In 1972, Yakov received his Master’s Degree in Music Theory from The Gnessin State Musical College. In 1972-1985, he taught music theory courses at the Yaroslavl Regional Music College.
