Systems Engineer
Responsibilities
Spock is looking for an awesome engineer who is happy in both the development and operations worlds. In this role, you will work on developing the core technologies for a large scale consumer web site, working on innovative features on both the frontend and backend.
Qualifications
- Strong debugging/troubleshooting skills.
- Understand architecturally how large web sites are typically put together.
- Experienced enough with UNIX, HTTP, networking, load balancers, and MySQL to figure out where in the stack a problem lies.
- Strong scripting skills (e.g. Ruby, Python, or Perl).
- Even if you've never used Rails, you're brave enough to delve into Spock Rails code and Rails internals to hunt down performance issues.
- At least basic HTML skills. CSS, JavaScript, and Rails skills a very big plus.
- Computer Science degree or equivalent
Information Retrieval Engineer
Responsibilities
In this role, you will work on developing core technologies based on information extraction theories and practices, which will revolutionize the way people interact with other people, and discover the world.
- You will work with one of the leading Silicon Valley development teams to apply fundamental engineering discipline to search/relevance/anti-spam/data extraction/text mining problems.
- Primary responsibility is to convert and mine web data to create a searchable database.
- You will work with the chief information architect to develop algorithms, collect data, build models (if necessary), analyze results, and refine your methodologies.
Qualifications
- Degree in computer science with a focus on information retrieval.
- Must be a hands-on coder.
- Experience with data production, from extraction, analysis, conversion, maintenance to sales (of data).
- Experience with text data production preferred (over numerical data).
- Must be good at some scripting language(s) for expedient text processing.
- Detail oriented.
- Track record of making sound assumptions in order to constrain and solve ill-defined and complex problems.
- Prior startup experience a strong plus.
Web Developer
Responsibilities
In this role, you will work on developing the core technologies for a large scale consumer web site, working on innovative features on both the frontend and backend.
You will work with one of the leading Silicon Valley development teams to apply fundamental engineering discipline on academic research findings to bring products to fruition, potentially benefiting hundreds of millions of consumers.
Qualifications
- Highly motivated, hands-on developer who is exceptionally bright and has experience in building and releasing web applications
- 3+ years experience of web development required
- Degree in computer science from a strong program preferable
- Strong programming background
- Expertise hand-coding HTML and CSS, with awareness of cross-browser issues
- Experience with Web 2.0 technologies: AJAX, JavaScript, Ruby on Rails
- Experience with LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl/Python)
