I grew up in St. Mary's county, MD, a place that is a rather strange mixture of rural folk, sailors and liberal arts college students. It's a historic place, a county surrounded by water and with little to do. I grew up at first in the rural northern part of the county and then my family moved to the more 'metropolitan' (ha!) southern section when I entered the eighth grade.
