Lin Dan (born October 14, 1983, in Longyan (龙岩), Fujian province) is a men's singles badminton player from Fujian, the People's Republic of China. Since 2004, he had been ranked number 1 in the world for two years. As of October 2006, Lin Dan had regained his ranking as #1 in the world, after a short period of being ranked behind Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia. Lin played in the 2004 Summer Olympics, where he lost to Ronald Susilo of Singapore in the early rounds.

Zhang Ning (born 19 May 1975 in Shenyang, Liaoning province) is a female badminton player from the People's Republic of China. Zhang played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics for China. In women's singles, she defeated Marina Andrievskaya of Sweden and Kelly Morgan of Great Britain in the first two rounds. In the quarterfinals, Zhang beat Wang Chen of Hong Kong 9-11, 11-6, 11-7 to advance to the semifinals. There, she defeated countrywoman Zhou Mi 11-6, 11-4.

- Thomas Laybourn
Thomas Laybourn (born 30 September 1977) is a male badminton player from Denmark. Laybourn won the 2006 European Badminton Championships in mixed doubles with partner Kamilla Rytter Juhl. He also competed at the 2006 IBF World Championships in mixed doubles (with Kamilla Rytter Juhl), and were defeated in the quarterfinals by Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms 21-14, 21-17.

Wei Yili (born 24 June 1982) is a female badminton player from the People's Republic of China. Wei competed for China in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in women's doubles with partner Zhao Tingting. They had a bye in the first round and defeated Gail Emms and Donna Kellogg of Great Britain in the second. In the quarterfinals, Wei and Zhao beat Lee Hyo-jung and Hwang Yu-mi of Korea 8-15, 15-6, 15-13.

Blair was born in Scotland, but after attending Loughborough University in Leicestershire, he has competed for England since 2001, except at the Olympic Games, where Scotland and England are both parts of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team. His main motivation for changing nation was the prospect of medals at the Commonwealth Games.

Bao Chunlai (born February 17, 1983 in Changsha, Hunan province) is a male, left-handed badminton player from the People's Republic of China. Bao played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's singles, defeating Shoji Sato of Japan in the first round. In the round of 16, Bao was himself defeated by Park Tae-sang of Korea. Bao reached the men's singles final at the 2006 IBF World Championships losing the final against Lin Dan.

They had a bye in the first round and defeated Eei Hui Chin and Pei Tty Wong of Malaysia in the second. In the quarterfinals, Huang and Gao beat Ann-Lou Jørgensen and Rikke Olsen of Denmark 15-6, 15-7.
