Theodate Pope Riddle (February 2 1867- August 30, 1946) was a well-known American architect. Born Effie Brooks Pope in Salem, Ohio, she was the only child of industrialist and art collector Alfred Atmore Pope and his wife Ada Lunette Brooks. When Effie was 19, she changed her name to "Theodate" in honor of her grandmother Theodate Stackpole. She was a graduate of Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut.

Brian Leetch (born March 3, 1968 in Corpus Christi, Texas) is a former professional ice hockey defenseman. Deon Anderson is a fullback for the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL. He attended the University of Connecticut and the Avon Old Farms School. He was drafted in the 6th round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

Christopher Higgins (born June 2 1983) is an ice hockey player in the NHL. An All-American at Yale University, he was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He is currently on the Canadiens roster. Before attending Yale University Chris went to Avon Old Farms, a preparatory school in Avon, Connecticut. He is from Smithtown, New York. Higgins grew up as a Montreal Canadiens fan. His favorite players are Patrick Roy and Kirk Muller.

Juan Manuel Nieves Cruz (born January 5, 1965 in Las Lomas, Puerto Rico) is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball who, on April 15, 1987, became the second-youngest player in major league history to throw a no-hitter, and so far the only Milwaukee Brewer to do so. After playing for the Milwaukee Brewers from 1986 to 1988, he suffered a career-ending arm injury. He was signed by the Brewers after graduating from Avon Old Farms school in Connecticut.

Chris Ray Hetherington (born on November 27, 1972 in North Branford, Connecticut) is a fullback in the NFL. He currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers. He went to Yale University. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1996. He then played for the Indianapolis Colts from 1996 to 1998. He was then signed by the Carolina Panthers from 1999 to 2002. He then played for the St. Louis Rams in 2002.
