  1. Marty Markowitz

    Marty Markowitz is the Borough President of Brooklyn, New York City. He received his bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College, in Political Science, in 1970. Prior to being elected Borough President, he spent over two decades as a New York State Senator for Brooklyn. During his time as a state senator, he was known for creating a series of oceanfront concerts and other festivals rather than drafting legislation. Markowitz believes that all politics are local.

    Helen Marshall was elected Borough President in 2001 succeeding the term-limited Claire Shulman. Prior to being elected Borough President, Marshall served on the New York City Council from 1992 to 2002, an office she was term limited out of.   5. James Molinaro

    James Molinaro, is the 14th and current Borough President of Staten Island in New York City. He was born on March 11, 1931, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan of Italian immigrants. He was one of six children, four brothers and two sisters. He is a widower since 1990 when his wife of 28 years, Carol, died of complications relating to scleroderma. The couple had two sons, Peter and Steven, and lived in the neighborhood of Fort Wadsworth since 1964.

  9. Herman Badillo

    Herman Badillo (born August 21, 1929 in Caguas, Puerto Rico) is a Bronx, New York politician who has been a borough president, United States Representative, and candidate for Mayor of New York City. He was the first Puerto Rican to be elected to these posts (and run for mayor) in the United States (outside of Puerto Rico). When Badillo was 11 years old, both of his parents died of tuberculosis and he was sent to live with his aunt in New York City.

  10. Donald Manes

    Donald R. Manes (January 18, 1934 - March 13, 1986) was a controversial Democratic Party politician from New York City. He served as borough president of the New York City borough of Queens from 1971 until his suicide in 1986. Elected at age 37, the Brooklyn-born Manes was the youngest borough president in Queens history. During his term, Manes turned his position from merely a ceremonial role into a more proactive political job.

    Kevin Parker represents District 21 in the New York State Senate, which is comprised of East Flatbush, Flatbush, Midwood, Ditmas Park, Kensington, and Boro Park. He is African American.     Inez Dickens is a member of the New York City Council, representing the 9th District, which includes Central Harlem. She replaced Bill Perkins after he ran for Manhattan Borough President. In the 2004 presidential election, she served as one of New York's 33 presidential electors casting her ballot for John Kerry.

    Robert Abrams (1938 -)is a politician and lawyer in New York. He served as a member of the New York State Assembly representing the Bronx in the 1970s. From 1970 to 1979, he served as the Bronx Borough President and "ex officio" member of the New York City Board of Estimate. He is considered a member of the reform wing of the Democratic Party. In 1978, he was elected to the first of four terms as New York State Attorney General.

  14. Andrew Stein

    Andrew Stein (born Andrew J. Finkelstein in 1945) was the last President of the New York City Council. He was a longtime political leader in New York. Stein's father is Jerry Finkelstein, a multi-millionaire retired publisher (i.e. of the New York Law Journal, among other publications). Andrew Stein chose to shorten his name. Stein was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1970 and served in that office for seven years.

    Abe Stark was a Russian-American politician from New York City. An immigrant who came to America from Russia as a small boy with his parents, he became a tailor and owned a clothing store at 1514 Pitkin Avenue in the East New York section of Brooklyn.     Gary S. Popkin (b. May 17, 1938 in New York) is a retired Professor of Computer Systems at New York City College of Technology and is a Libertarian activist. He has written several college textbooks on the Cobol Programming Language. He has a Ph.D. from Polytechnic University. He produces Hardfire, a Libertarian Talk Show which is broadcast on Brooklyn Community Access Television (BCAT).

  17. Ralph J. Lamberti

    Ralph J. Lamberti is a member of the Democratic Party, and held the office of borough president of Staten Island, New York from 1984 to 1989. He was defeated in the 1989 by then Congressman Guy Molinari. Lamberti lost the election mostly because of deal with then New York City Mayor Ed Koch to put a homeless shelter on Staten Island.

  18. Karen Burstein

    Karen Burstein is a politician and former judge from New York. She was the unsuccessful Democratic nominee for New York State Attorney General in 1994. Burstein served as a state senator representing Long Island in the 1970s. She later moved into the administration of former Gov. Mario Cuomo as the Chairwoman and Executive Director of the State Consumer Protection Board.

  20. Julius Miller

    Julius Miller (1880-1955) was a Manhattan Borough President from 1922 to 1930, who is best remembered for pushing through the West Side Elevated Highway from 72nd Street to the tip of Manhattan. Among his other accomplishments was pushing through the construction of the Park Avenue ramp through New York Central Building and around Grand Central Terminal, the establishment of the center strip on Park Avenue, and initiated plans to replace the Sixth Avenue elevated train.

  21. Jeffrion Aubry

    Jeffrion L. Aubry represents District 35 in the New York State Assembly, which is comprised of East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Corona and Woodside.   24. Philip T. Sica

    Philip Theodore Sica (born September 27, 1934) is a realtor who, in 2005, made an unsuccessful bid for Queens borough president in New York City. He was the nominee for the Republican and Conservative parties ultimately losing to incumbent Borough President Helen Marshall. Sica's earliest education was at St. Stephen's Elementary School. Sica graduated high school from Cardinal Hayes.

  25. Nicholas Muller

    Nicholas Muller (November 15, 1836 - December 12, 1917) was a United States Representative from New York. Born in the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, he attended the common schools in the city of Metz and afterward the Luxemburg Athenaeum. He immigrated to the United States with his parents, who settled in New York City, and was employed as a railroad ticket agent for over twenty years.

  26. James C. Healey

    James Christopher Healey (December 24, 1909-December 16, 1981) was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives from New York. He was born in the Bronx. He graduated from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1933 and St. John's University School of Law in 1936. He was an assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1940 until 1943. He served in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1946.

    Lou Tobacco developed his leadership skills at a young age while earning Eagle Scout honors at St. Teresa's Boy Scout Troop 37. Lou was presented with the prestigious Irving Berlin Citizen Award by the Greater New York Council Boy Scouts of America for his leadership on Substance Abuse Awareness.
