  1. Martin Marinov

    Martin Marinov (born 25 October 1967) is a retired Bulgarian flatwater canoer. A former "Mr Bulgaria" he won two Olympic medals for that country in the Canadian canoeing 500m events. In Seoul in 1988 he was the bronze medallist in the C-1 500m. Four years later in Barcelona he and teammate Blagovest Stoyanov won bronze in the C-2 500m. At the 1996 Olympics Marinov and Stojanov reached both C-2 finals, finishing fourth (1000m) and fifth (500m).

  5. Larry Cain

    Laurence J. "Larry" Cain (born January 9, 1963) is a Canadian canoeist. Born in Toronto, Ontario, he was the first Canadian canoeist since Frank Amyot to win a Gold medal in canoeing.     Ivan Klementjev (born November 18, 1960) is a retired Latvian flatwater canoer, who won three Olympic medals in C-1 1000 metres at the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics.   8. Ian Ferguson

    Ian Gordon Ferguson, MBE, (born July 20, 1952 in Taumarunui) is New Zealand's most successful Olympian, competing in K1, K2, and K4 kayak events. He first competed at the Montreal, Canada Olympic Games in 1976 and again at Moscow, Russia Olympic Games in 1980. In the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, 1984 he earned three gold medals. He then earned another gold medal and a silver medal at the Olympic Games held in Seoul, Korea in 1988.

  9. Torsten Gutsche

    Torsten Gutsche was a German flatwater canoer of the 1990's whose record of 11 world championship titles has not been matched by any other Kayak racer. He won three Olympic and seven World gold medals with K-2 partner Kay Bluhm. After the Atlanta Olympics he switched to Germany's four-man kayak winning four more gold medals.

  10. György Zala

    György Zala is a retired Hungarian flatwater canoer, who won two Olympic bronze medals in the Canadian canoe C-1 1000 metre event. Zala, a hyperactive child, took up canoeing at the age of 11. A great natural athlete despite suffering from asthma, it seemed he was only truly motivated by the Olympics.     Andrian Dushev (born 6 June 1970) is a Bulgarian canoer and former Olympic, world and European medallist. Republican champion many times during his career he was first called up to the national team of Bulgaria in 1989.     Stephen Giles (born July 4, 1972 in Saint Stephen, New Brunswick) is a Canadian canoer. He began canoeing at age eight at the Orenda Racing Canoe Club in Lake Echo, Nova Scotia.   17. Blagovest Stoyanov

    Blagovest Stoyanov (born 21 March 1968 in Asenovgrad) is a retired Bulgarian canoer who won an Olympic bronze medal in the C-2 500 m event at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona with partner Martin Marinov. Four years later at the Atlanta Olympics Marinov and Stoyanov reached both C-2 finals, finishing fourth (1000m) and fifth (500m). Stoyanov's best world championship results also came in the C-2 with Marinov. In 1994 in Mexico City they won the C-2 500m bronze medal.

    Antonio Rossi (born December 19, 1968 in Lecco) is an Italian canoer who won five medals in kayak flatwater canoeing. He has also been successful at the canoeing World Championships.

  19. Andrew Trim

    Andrew Trim (born December, 1968 in Sydney, New South Wales) is the Queensland Coalition candidate for the state seat of Cleveland. He is a former Olympian, competitng in the sports of canoeing. He won a bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics and a silver medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics, both in kayaking. Trim currently serves as Principal of Johnson Real Estate at Birkdale.

  20. Kay Bluhm

    Kay Bluhm (born October 13, 1968 in Brandenburgwas a German flatwater canoe racer who won a total of five Olympic medals. His first medal, a bronze in Seoul, came as a member of Germany's K-4 kayak crew. However Bluhm's greatest success came after he joined forces with Torsten Gutsche in 1989 in the two-man kayak. As the outstanding K-2 pairing of their generation they won three Olympic gold medals, one Olympic silver and seven World Championship golds.

  21. László Fidel

    László Fidel is a Hungarian flatwater canoer who won an Olympic silver medal in K-4 1000 m at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. He also won a total of five world championship gold medals - four in the K-4 1000m (1986, 1987, 1990, 1991) and once in the two-man K-2 1000m (1987 with Ferenc Csipes).

  22. Knut Holmann

    Knut Holmann (born July 31, 1968) is a retired Norwegian canoer, who won six Olympic medals in the K-1 event. He finished his career with two gold medals at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Holmann also became world champion over K-1 1000 metres in 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1995.

    Pierpaolo Ferrazzi (born 23 July 1965) is an Italian slalom canoer. He won two Olympic medals in the K-1 event, in 1992 and 2000. He also competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics, finishing nineteenth.

    Frank Adisson (born 24 July 1969) is a French slalom canoer. He won two Olympic medals in the C-2 event, in 1992 and 1996, both times with Wilfrid Forgues as the teammate. They also competed in 2000, but finished seventh.

    Jiří Rohan is a Czech slalom canoer who won two Olympic silver medals in the C-2 event, in 1992 and 1996, both times with partner Miroslav Šimek.

  27. Michał Śliwiński

    Michał Śliwiński is a Polish flatwater canoer won six world championship titles over his long career. An ethnic Pole from Ukraine, Śliwiński represented the USSR at the 1988 Olympics, winning the Canadian canoe C-1 500m silver medal at the age of only eighteen. Over the next three years he dominated the event, winning consecutive world championship gold medals in 1989, 1990 and 1991.

  28. Nikolay Bukhalov

    Nikolay Bukhalov (born March 20, 1967 in Karlovo) is Bulgaria's most successful ever flatwater canoer. He competed in the Canadian canoe C-1 event. He won three individual canoe Olympic medals, including double gold at Barcelona in 1992. In addition he won five world championship gold medals (1993, 1994 (2) and 1995 (2)). The final gold medal of his career came at the 1997 European Championships, held on his home course in Plovdiv, where he won the the C-1 500m title.

  29. Mikko Kolehmainen

    Mikko Yrjö Ilmari Kolehmainen is a retired Finnish flatwater canoer. He won Finland's only gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. He represented his country at four separate Olympic Games between 1984 and 1996. At Los Angeles in 1984 he competed in the K2 kayak with his brother Olli. Four years later at the Seoul games he was a member of Finland's four-man (K4) crew.

  30. Jochen Lettmann

    Jochen Lettmann (born 10 April 1969) is a German slalom canoer. He won the bronze medal in the K-1 event at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

  31. Attila Ábrahám

    Attila Ábrahám is a Hungarian canoer who won three Olympic medals in the flatwater kayak team events. He also won five world championship golds - three as a member of Hungary's K-4 kayak 1000 m crew (1989, 1990, 1991), as well as two in the old K-2 10000 m event (1989, 1993).

  32. Katrin Borchert

    Katrin Borchert was born on November 4, 1969 in Warren/Müritz, Germany, but is now a naturalised Australian and retired world-class kayaker. She won a silver medal for Germany at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Borchert represented Australia at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. With Anna Wood she won bronze in the womens K2 500 Olympic event.

  33. Wilfrid Forgues

    Wilfrid Forgues (born 22 December 1969) is a French slalom canoer. He won two Olympic medals in the C-2 event, in 1992 and 1996, both times with Frank Adisson as the teammate. They also competed in 2000, but finished seventh.

  36. Anna Wood

    Anna Wood was born on July 22, 1966 in Roermond, Netherlands, but is now a naturalised Australian and retired world-class kayaker. Wood represented Australia at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. With Katrin Borchert she won bronze in the womens K2 500 Olympic event. Two years later the same team was crowned champions in the K2 500 and K2 1.000m events at the World Championships in Hungary. Wood and Borchert again won the K2 1000 world champion title in 1999.

  37. Štěpánka Hilgertová

    Štěpánka Hilgertová is a Czech slalom canoer who won two Olympic gold medals in the K-1 event in 1996 and 2000. She finished 12th in 1992 and 5th in 2004.

  38. Róbert Erban

    Róbert Erban is a Slovakian flatwater canoer and current (2006) world champion in the kayak K4 500m. A regular finalist at world and European championships since the early nineties Erban competed in three Olympic Games (1992,1996 and 2000) and was unlucky to finish in fourth place twice.

  39. Lukáš Pollert

    Lukáš Pollert is a Czech slalom canoer who won two Olympic medals in the C-1 event, in 1992 and 1996. Being a Doctor of Medicine, he resigned from his sportsmanship career in 2000 and is nowadays active in his career of a GP in ER of Prague's Military Hospital. He has published several books of interviews with other top Czech sportmans ("Lukáš Pollert se ptá") and is an active videoblogger on [Vyladeno.tv] site. Has two daughters.
