  1. Luke Kruytbosch

    Luke Kruytbosch (pronounced KRITE-boss) is an American Thoroughbred horse racing announcer. He is best known as the on-track public-address voice of Churchill Downs and The Kentucky Derby since 1999. He can also be heard at Ellis Park, Kentucky Downs as well as Turf Paradise which is near Phoenix, Arizona. IN 2007, Kruytbosch's call of the Derby was carried live on ESPN Radio.

    Mark Guidry (born August 6, 1959 in Lafayette, Louisiana) is an American jockey. He began his riding career in Thoroughbred horse racing in his native Louisiana in 1974 where he remained until 1986 when he went to race in Illinois. He was the leading jockey at Hawthorne Race Course seven times, Sportsman's Park nine times, and two times at Arlington Park. Guidry earned his 5,000th career win at Churchill Downs on May 4, 2007.

  3. Steve Cauthen

    Steve Cauthen (born May 1, 1960 in Covington, Kentucky) is an American jockey. Cauthen, the son of a trainer and a farrier, grew up in Walton, Kentucky around horses, which (along with his small size) made race-riding a logical career choice. He rode his first race on May 12, 1976 at Churchill Downs; he finished last, riding King of Swat. He rode his first winner (Red Pipe) less than a week later.

    Colonel Martin J. "Matt" Winn (1861 - October 6, 1949) was a prominent personality in American thoroughbred horse racing history and president of Churchill Downs racetrack, home to the Kentucky Derby race that he made famous. A Louisville, Kentucky, businessman, Matt Winn had been a racing enthusiast since the day his father brought him to see the first running of the Kentucky Derby in 1875.

    Colonel Meriwether Lewis Clark, Jr. (January 27, 1846 - April 22, 1899), was the founder of the Louisville Jockey Club and the builder of Churchill Downs, where the Kentucky Derby is run. He was the grandson of explorer and Missouri governor General William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. His mother was Abigail Prather Churchill, from one of the first families of Kentucky.

    King T. Leatherbury MBA (born March 26, 1933 in Shady Side, Maryland) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer who ranks third all-time in wins among U.S. trainers. Called a Maryland racing legend by Churchill Downs, King T. Leatherbury, along with John J. Tammaro, Jr., Richard E. Dutrow, Sr. and Hall of Fame inductee Bud Delp, were known as Maryland racing's "Big Four".

  9. Michael E. Pegram

    Michael E. Pegram (born February 16, 1952 in Fort Knox, Kentucky) is the owner of the 1998 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Real Quiet. He grew up going to the races at Ellis Park and Churchill Downs and dreamed of someday owing a Kentucky Derby winner. He also won the 1998 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies with Silverbulletday and after she was voted that year's Eclipse Award for Outstanding 2-Year-Old Filly, came back in 1999 to win the Kentucky Oaks.

  10. William Walker

    William "Billy" Walker (1860 - September 20, 1933) was an African American jockey. Born a slave in near Versailles, Kentucky, Billy Walker was the leading rider at Churchill Downs in the fall racing season of 1875-76 and the spring campaigns of 1876 through 1878. He was the winning rider aboard Ten Broeck in a famous July 4, 1878 match race at Louisville, Kentucky against the great California filly, Mollie McCarty.

    Gary Lynn Stevens (born March 6, 1963 in Caldwell, Idaho) is an American thoroughbred horse racing jockey. He began his career in 1979 at Les Bois Park in Boise, Idaho. Gary Stevens won numerous awards and prizes in the horse racing industry including the prestigious George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award in 1996 that honors a rider whose career and personal conduct exemplifies the very best example of participants in the sport of thoroughbred racing.

  12. Milton Metz

    Milton Metz is a popular local radio and television personality in Louisville, Kentucky. He has appeared in one capacity or another on Louisville's airwaves for nearly half a century. "El Metzo," as he is known to fans, is best known for his WHAS (AM) radio call-in show, "Metz Here," which began its run on July 20, 1959 (with the title "Juniper-5-2385"), and ended on June 10, 1993.

  13. William Stamps Farish III

    Mr. Farish is former President of W.S. Farish and Company, an investment firm in Houston. He has been owner of Lane's End Farm, a 2,000-acre thoroughbred breeding facility in Versailles, Kentucky, since 1980. He is also former Chairman of Churchill Downs Incorporated, home of the Kentucky Derby. Mr. Farish, who attended the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, began his career as a stockbroker at Underwood, Neuhaus and Company in Houston.

  14. Charles F. Grainger

    Charles F. Grainger was Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky from 1901 to 1905. He became president of Grainger & Company, his family's iron foundry. He was elected to the Board of Aldermen representing the Seventh Ward in 1890. He became board president in 1893, and was quite powerful in the Democrat Party, temporarily eclipsing long-time party boss John Whallen. Grainger was elected mayor in 1901.
