  1. John Ross Robertson

    John Ross Robertson (December 28 1841 - 31 May 1918) was a newspaper publisher and philanthropist in Toronto, Canada. Robertson was educated at Upper Canada College, a private high school in Toronto. As a young man, he started a newspaper at UCC called "Young Canada" and a satirical magazine, "The Grumbler". He was hired as a reporter and then city editor at "The Globe" in Toronto, but left "The Globe" to found "The Telegraph" in 1866.

  2. William Buehler Seabrook

    William Buehler Seabrook (February 22 1884-1945) was an American Lost Generation occultist, explorer, traveller, and journalist, born in Westminster, Maryland. He began his career as a reporter and City Editor of the "Augusta Chronicle" in Georgia. He later became a partner in an advertising agency in Atlanta. In 1915 he joined the French Army in what was to become The Great War. He was gassed at Verdun in 1916, and was later awarded the Croix de Guerre.

  3. Charles H. Mackintosh

    The Honourable Charles Herbert Mackintosh (1843 - December 22 1931) was a journalist, mayor of Ottawa from 1879-1881, represented Ottawa City in the Canadian House of Commons from 1882 to 1887 and from 1890 to 1893, and served as Lieutenant Governor of the Northwest Territories from 1893 to 1898. He was born in London, Ontario in 1843, the son of an Irish immigrant. He began the study of law but instead entered the trade of journalism.

  4. Peter Gzowski

    Peter Gzowski, CC, LL.D, D.Litt (July 13, 1934 - January 24, 2002) was a Canadian broadcaster, writer and reporter, most famous for his work on the CBC radio show "Morningside". He wrote books, hosted television shows, and worked at a number of newspapers and at "Maclean's Magazine". It is estimated that he conducted 27,000 interviews as host of "Morningside". Gzowski was known for a friendly but somewhat gruff at times interviewing style.

  6. Vikki Porter

    Vikki Porter is founding director of the Western Knight Center for Specialized Journalism at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California. During her 30-year journalism career, Porter has worked in five Western states, started a newspaper, served as top editor for three community newspapers, and shared a 1986 Pulitzer Prize Gold Medal as part of a five-person team while city editor of The Denver Post .

She also was the first legal editor of The New York Times Magazine before becoming its law and politics editor. Before that, Weisenhaus was editor-in-chief of The National Law Journal , a leading publication for lawyers in the U.S. that won several major journalism awards during her tenure.

  36. William R. Burleigh

    William R. Burleigh began his career as a journalist at The Evansville Press in May 1951 as a part-time sports reporter. In the late 1950s, he covered early school integration conflicts in the South and became the paper's first urban affairs reporter. He became city editor in 1962, managing editor in 1969 and editor and president in 1975. Burleigh was named editor of The Cincinnati Post on July 1, 1977.

    Andre Fontaine was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 14, 1910. He studied at Amherst and Columbia colleges, receiving his B.A. degree from the latter in 1931. The following year he studied under the Graduate Faculty of English at Columbia University. He married Dorothy Roselius in Great Neck, NY in 1935. The couple had three children.

  40. Marian Deforest

    Marian served on the Board of the Buffalo Public Library, becoming the only woman member of the Buffalo Public Library Trustees. Marian was an honorary member and aregular visitor of the Twentieth Century Club. When the founder of this club, Charlotte Mulligan, started the "Scribblers," an organization for local writing women, Ms. deforest was one of the first invited to join. Marian lived at various addresses in Buffalo.
