  8. Rebecca J. Nelson

    Rebecca Nelson (born c. 1961), B.A. Swarthmore College, 1982, Ph.D. University of Washington, 1988 (Zoology). Associate Professor of Plant Pathology, Plant Breeding and International Agriculture at Cornell University. She is also Program Director for The McKnight Foundation Collaborative Crop Research Program. Her current research concerns resistance to diseases of cereal crops (especially maize) in Africa.

  9. Harlan James Smith

    Harlan James Smith (August 25, 1924-October 17, 1991) was an American astronomer. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of Paul and Anna McGregor Smith. While attending Wheeling High School he was named first runner up in the "Westinghouse National Science Talent Search". From 1943 until the end of World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, performing weather observation. Following the war he attended Harvard University, earning a B.A. in 1949.

  11. Jennifer Tour Chayes

    Jennifer Chayes , co-founder and co-manager of the Microsoft Theory Group. Chayes is an expert in the new field of research that is emerging at the intersection of mathematics, physics, and theoretical computer science. An affiliate professor of mathematics and physics at the University of Washington, she has co-authored more than 80 scientific papers and is a named inventor on numerous pending patent applications.

Stull Holt was born in New York City in 1896 and died in Seattle on October 12, 1981. In 1917 he joined the American Ambulance Field Service as a driver during W.W.I. Later he joined the American Air Service and received his pilot commission as a 1st Lieutenant.

    Stefan Debbert is a fourth year graduate student engaged in research in the laboratories of Professor Barry K. Carpenter at Cornell University, where he has contributed to the synthesis and kinetic studies of [1,3] sigmatropic shifts. He has also studied dynamics trajectories on reparametrized AM1 surfaces used to study the Cope rearrangement of 1,2,6-heptatriene in collaboration with Wes Borden and Dave Hrovat at the University of Washington.

  35. Jon Gould

    Jon was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In 1989, he graduated from Cornell University with a BA in history. Shortly after, he moved to Seattle, where he began working as a community organizer with the Seattle Tenants Union. After an experience as a guest trainer at the Children's Alliance's first Advocacy Camp, Jon accepted a staff position. Prior to becoming Deputy Director, Jon served as the organization's Community Action Director.

  36. Moon-Ho Jung

    Moon-Ho Jung Moon-Ho Jung is the author of "Coolies" and Cane: Race, Labor, and Sugar in the Age of Emancipation, which is a historical study of Chinese labor in the South of the United States. He has also written several other books and articles examining Chinese labor in U.S. history, as well as other Asian American studies. Jung received his Ph.D. in History from Cornell University and taught previously at Cornell and Oberlin College before joining the UW faculty in 2001.

  37. Justin Wright

    Justin Wright graduated from Williams College and received his doctorate from Cornell University. He was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Washington before becoming a Columbia Science Fellow in 2003. His research interests include understanding the role that individual species can play in altering patterns of biodiversity across landscapes and determining the importance of biodiversity in regulating ecosystem functioning.
